Damage Control Training

Maritime damage control training focuses on preparing ship crews to respond effectively to emergencies aboard ships, such as flooding or structural damage that threatens the vessel’s safety. This one-day practical training is essential for commercial and civilian maritime operations. To achieve a standardised approach towards maritime damage control for all Officers and crew engaged in working in enclosed and confined spaces and in rescue operations. Flooding and Stability Management - Causes of Flooding: Hull breaches, collisions, grounding, or equipment failure. - Damage Control Procedures: Techniques for plugging, patching, and shoring damaged areas to contain water ingress. - Stability Awareness: Understanding how flooding affects a vessel’s stability and steps to counteract listing or capsizing. Leak and Structural Repair - Material Use: Hands-on training with wedges, patches, and sealants. - Tools and Techniques: Proper use of damage control kits, portable pumps, and welding equipment (if applicable). - Rapid Response: Fast assessment and action to prevent escalation. Team Coordination and Communication - Chain of Command: Following orders and relaying accurate information. - Team Drills: Simulated emergency scenarios to practice coordination. - Emergency Procedures: Mastery of abandon ship, man overboard, or firefighting protocols. Training Methods: - Classroom Instruction: Theoretical knowledge on ship safety, damage control tools, and emergency protocols. - Simulators and Mock Scenarios: Realistic environments for hands-on practice with flooding, and other emergencies. - Live Exercises: Drills to ensure readiness under realistic conditions.
