Since January 1, 2012, seafarers have been required to refresh their knowledge of Basic Safety, Survival Craft and Rescue Boats, and Advanced Fire Fighting every 5 years by participating in a refresher course in accordance with STCW 78, as amended. In accordance with Chapter VI of the STCW Code, the course covers the following topics:
Personal Survival Techniques (Table A-VI/1-1)
Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (Table A-VI/1-2)
Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats (Table A-VI/2-1)
Advanced Fire Fighting (Table A-VI/3)
Requirements
We are required to verify your eligibility based on the documents you submit. Please send us copies of the following documents by the start of the course—you are welcome to send them via email:
Valid maritime service fitness certificate
Valid ID card or passport
Certificate of Proficiency/Refresher Course in Basic Safety Training
Certification/Refresher Course for Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (other than Fast Rescue Boats)
Befähigungsnachweis/Auffrischung bzgl. Advanced Fire Fighting
To be on the safe side, you should obtain recognition from the BSH for foreign certificates.
